St. Phillip South

The Honourable Wilmoth Daniel is the representative for the St. Philip’s South constituency. As Minister of Works and Transportation, his portfolio includes the Port Authority, Development Control Authority (D.C.A.), Public Works, Vehicular Control, Infrastructure and Maintenance.

Mr. Daniel was born on the 18th August 1948 in the village of Bolans. He attended the St. John's Boys School and the Hill Secondary School. He is married and is the father of two, son Wilmoth Jr. and daughter Stacey. He is an Auctioneer by profession.

Mr. Daniel first ran for political office in 1984 as a candidate in the St. Philip's South Constituency under the UNDP ticket. He has served as a Senator in the Upper House (1989 – 1994), and as a Member of Parliament (1994 – 1999). He is currently the Deputy Leader of the United Progressive Party and was one of the founding members of the party. Wilmoth (as he is popularly known) has proven himself to be a man of character and strong will. He will be contesting the St. Philip's South seat for another term.

Getting the Job Done for St. Phillip South

  • Successfully and rapidly improved roads across the constituency. This includes the paving of roadways that were left unimproved for decades in Freetown, Bethesda and St. Philip’s Village.
  • Made long overdue renovations to the Freetown Clinic for the improvement of quality healthcare in the constituency.
  • Began construction on a new health clinic in Bethesda, scheduled to be opened early 2009.
  • Built stands at the basketball court in Freetown.
  • Constructed fencing for the cricket and football fields in Freetown.
  • Began construction on spectator stands and changing rooms at the Bethesda playing fields.
  • Fenced a playing field and built a half-court basketball venue in St. Phillips Village.
  • Began work on a computer centre for St. Philip’s Village.
  • Worked with constituents and the business community to provide annual food packages for the elderly in the constituency.
  • Arranged for donations of sheet sets, dusters, etc. for an annual Social Outreach Programme.
  • Made individual donations to various schools in the constituency, especially for their graduation exercises.
