St. George

Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro serves the people of St. George in the House of Representatives and is the Minister of Labour, Public Administration and Empowerment.

Dr. Quinn-Leandro was born on the 20th of November 1965. She was educated at the Holy Trinity School, Five Islands Primary School, Pilgrim High School, Ottos Comprehensive and The Antigua Girl's High School.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts and Mass Communication (First Class Honours) at the University of the West Indies, a Masters Degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Cambridge University (England) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Communications from McGill University (Canada).

Dr. Quinn-Leandro was News Anchor and Talk Show Host at ABS Television where she also served as head of news and current affairs from 1986-1997. She was the Human Resource and Marketing Officer at the Antigua Barbuda Investment Bank, a Communications Consultant at the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation and the Corporate Communications Consultant for the Antigua Commercial Bank and the Hadeed Corporate Group.

Dr. Quinn-Leandro served as President of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), 2006-2008, a specialized organ of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the oldest organization committed to addressing the rights of women, gender equality and equity. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of Antigua, Carimac Alumni Association and the Cambridge University Alumni.

Getting the Job Done for St. George

Jacqui Quinn-Leandro has delivered for the people of St. George. From Potters to Piggotts to Paynters, from New Winthropes to Barnes Hill, she has been solving real problems facing constituents in villages all across her constituency.

Potters

  • Delivered floodlights and fencing for the football field.
  • Built fencing and upgraded the Basketball/Netball court in Potters.
  • Opened a Community Computer Access Centre which provides computer and technology training and is open until 9 pm for free internet access to constituents.
  • Started a feeding programme to supply basic food items to senior citizens and the less fortunate.
  • Assisted with housing repairs for seniors.
  • Improved roads, including concrete roads in Berlin, and built sidewalks throughout the community.
  • Prepared the constituency for the hurricane season each year by cleaning drains and gutters.

Piggotts/Paynters

  • Developed Festival Park, creating opportunities for vendors to sell their goods and showcase the local cuisine and craft of the community.
  • Built a new auditorium for a schoolin the constituency.
  • Constructed the School Meals Centre providing nutritious, low cost meals for students.
  • Sponsored a football league, clubs and individuals for Carnival and various other sporting and cultural activities.
  • Worked with APUA in the construction of the first concrete roads in Paynter’s West.
  • Sponsored and supported an Information Technology Camp utilising the government’s mobile Information Technology classrooms.

New Winthorpes/Barneshill

  • Led a community effort to repave the basketball court.
  • Continued the feeding programme for senior citizens and the less fortunate in the constituency.
  • Construct fence and upgraded the Lambert’s Community Cemetery.
  • Constructed the washroom/changing room facility at the New Winthorpes Football Field.
  • Sponsored a Football League, carnival and sporting activities.
  • Donated computers, printers and televisions to community schools.
  • Installed lighting at the New Winthorpes Football field.
  • Worked with APUA to supply potable water to the village.
