PM Spencer Will Launch the New People's Benefit Program

Making good on a promise he made to the disabled community, Prime Minister, the Honorable Baldwin Spencer, will shortly be launching the new People's Benefit Program, established to provide economic assistance to qualified disabled and disadvantaged citizens and legal residents of Antigua & Barbuda.

The People's Benefit Card, a special debit card with a monthly value of EC$200, will be issued to every beneficiary, to be used for the purchase of specified food and household items from designated vendors. The program will allow for designated payees to act on behalf of beneficiaries who may be disabled, unwell or otherwise immobile.

"This new People's Benefit Program is a fulfillment of my Government's promise and commitment to look after two of the most vulnerable sectors of our society and is yet another tangible demonstration that we put people first," said Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.

The People's Benefit Program is administered by PDV Caribe Antigua & Barbuda Ltd., a wholly owned Government entity, established under the Petro Caribe Initiative, to implement tangible projects that will accrue maximum benefits for the citizens of Antigua & Barbuda. The program follows closely on the heels of the highly successful Senior Citizens Utilities Subsidy Program. It is estimated to benefit some 2,000 persons at an approximate annual cost of EC$4.8M.
