UPP Requests New Polling Division in St. Peter
A new polling division may soon be created in the St. Peters Constituency.
The United Progressive Party has requested that a third polling division should be created to accommodate the more than two thousand registered voters in that constituency.
According to the Chairman of the United Progressive Party Leon “Chaku” Symister, this new Polling District should cover the communities of Fitches Creek, Weirs, Paynters East, Paynters Court, Paynters Paradise, Antigua Sugar Factory, Gunthropes and Lightfoot.
“It would be more convenient to the electors given the proximity to their communities thereby ensuring increased voter turn out if merely on the basis of convenience,” explains Symister.
The UPP Chairman says if these electors are required to cast their ballots at the existing polling divisions, the result would be inordinately long lines and frustration on the polling day.
Although the UPP proposes that the Sunnyside Tutorial School would be a suitable location to be named “Polling District C”, Symister says any other site within the constituency that is west of the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium would be deemed appropriate.
