UPP Motorcade Attacked; Two Seriously Injured
Yesterday's UPP whistle stop had to be diverted from its original route after coming under serious attack by ALP clad supporters at the Ya So So corner in Liberta. A 14 year old Liberta resident suffered head injuries after being struck by a stone, and had to be taken to the hospital, while another man was later stabbed in the hand and bled severely
Surprised supporters of the UPP ran from their vehicles to a nearby church for safety after bottles and stones rained down from every direction. A red flag was held across the road while some people scrambled helplessly for cover.
A yellow bus marked St George's Express, filled with UPP supporters, also came under attack, leaving the driver with no choice but to force his way through the human roadblock of ALP supporters.
The left side of the bus was punctured by stones, and several other cars were also damaged. The supported resorted to stoning he UPP office next to the Ya So So Bakery when there were no other targets.
Meanwhile, later that night in English Harbour, a stone's throw from the motorcade's culminating rally, paramedics had to aid another man after he was stabbed in the hand and bled profusely. Eyewitnesses said the stabbing occurred after the victim had a heated argument with another person.
The police brought the situation under control, and the wounded man was taken to the hospital.
