Williams Gets The Spotlight
As the United Progressive Party continues on its quest for another bout at the helm of this country, more candidates are receiving endorsements, with Minister of Sports Winston Williams being the latest to receive such.
During Tuesday night's rally, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer threw his full support behind the UPP candidate for St John's Rural South, saying he is extremely pleased with the dynamism, hard work and commitment that Williams has shown not only to his constituents, but throughout Antigua and Barbuda.
"I want to appeal to the people of Rural South," PM Spencer said, "to make sure that they renew their confidence in this young man, and to give him an opportunity to continue the wonderful work that he has been doing as an integral part of the United Progressive Party administration."
Prime Minister Spencer added that as far as he is concerned, Williams has no opponent, and his place in that constituency should be a very clear one. The country's leader indicated also that under the leadership of the UPP, the future of Antigua and Barbuda will be in safe hands, a message not sent by the Antigua Labour Party (ALP).
"The task at hand is an important one," the PM continued. "The future of your community and the future of your country are at stake. And what I want to urge the people of Antigua and Barbuda to understand is that this election is not about good governance. It is not about the people of Antigua and Barbuda and their future as far as the ALP is concerned."
Spencer alluded to the fact that upon hearing the "messages" of the members of the opposition party on what he called "night soil radio," referring to the ALP aligned ZDK, he was convinced that they are a desperate party who have lost total favour with the people.
