Williams Promises Mega Race Venue

A US $20 M state-of-the-art race track may soon become a reality, upon the reinstallation of Minister of Sports Winston Williams to his current post.

Williams articulated such plans as he took to the podium Tuesday evening during his endorsement rally in the St John's Rural South Constituency. He intimated that earlier this week, during talks with members of the racing fraternity, it became evident that the time has come for the country to boast a proper track.

"We will construct a brand new one, but in the meantime, we have entered into some discussions with John I, to ensure that we can lease the property at John I, develop it in the meantime into a semi park, and move on to a bigger one.
A private investor is rearing and ready to go," the minister revealed.

Also slated for significant upgrades are the Yasco Sporting Complex and the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, all in an effort to bring these facilities up to par so that they may be used to host international sporting events. Williams said that over $600 M will be invested into this project. "We have a right that we can host international games and meets in this country, and that is going to be my legacy right up there in the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium," he said. "The land is already identified, and we are getting ready to construct that facility."

The sports minster boasted that for the first time in the history of Antigua and Barbuda, the country can be proud of having an athlete win a gold medal, in the person of Brendan Christian, who, according to Williams, has championed the cause in track and field.

Williams added that under the continued leadership of the United Progressive Party and Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, his constituents and residents of Antigua and Barbuda will continue to see positive development throughout the island.

Responding to opposition comments that he's an amateur, Williams said to the gathering, "If all that I have done is being an amateur, then give me five more years and I will show you what a professional is all about."
