10 March 2009

The United Progressive Party (UPP) St John’s City South candidate Lenworth Johnson, during an official ribbon cutting ceremony, Tuesday morning, opened the Ovals Community Access & Development Centre.

Johnson told the gathering that the opening of the computer centre was a dream come true and was in an effort to continue the “empowerment of the people.”

“It is dream come true, clearly, for the opening of the computer access and development centre,” Johnson said.

He added that the computer access centre in the constituency was timely and would go along way to assist the youths in his constituency.

Johnson noted further he has plans to work closely with the national librarian for the sharing on information, which is another aspect of his plans for “continued development and improvement.”

The Minister with responsibility for telecommunications, Dr Edmond Monsoor, said plans were being made for sometime to open a community computer access and development centre.

He mentioned that there are other computer access centres in various constituencies, while plans are afoot for the opening of another in Swetes.

“I also want to say to you that the decision, that every individual make, on Thursday, will impact on everyone living in this country and every child that is not yet born, so don’t for one second diminish or undervalue that decision, that is a serious decision. The United Progressive Party has moved this country forward,” Dr Monsoor said.

“You are making critical decision on Thursday.”

Sir Machesney Emmanuel expressed that the UPP, has set a vision to take this country forward into the 21st century.

“Information Technology is that main driver,” Emmanuel said knowledge is power and the computer access centre will assist in boosting the community’s knowledgebase.
