PM Spencer Sends Message of Condolences to Chinese Counterpart

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – 17th April, 2010……..Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Dr. the Hon. W. Baldwin Spencer on Thursday sent a message of condolences to his Chinese counterpart Premier Wen Jiabao, following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake which struck Yushu in Western China leaving over fourteen hundred people dead.

In his message, Prime Minister Spencer extended heartfelt sympathies and solidarity to the people of China, particularly the individuals rendered homeless and the families of those who have not yet been accounted for as a result of the disaster. “It is hoped that the families of the victims remain steadfast and optimistic as the rescue missions continue to be executed.

“I wish to highly commend the various relief efforts executed under your careful direction, particularly the efforts to secure those most affected in the Quinghai Province from further harm. My Government is confident that the resilience, fortitude and unwavering commitment of your people to survive against all odds will assist China in recovering favourably from this disaster,” the Prime Minister’s message outlined.

The country’s leader also assured the Chinese Premier that the prayers of his administration and the people of Antigua and Barbuda are with the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China.

Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China have enjoyed favourable relations since 1981.
