The 1999 ALP Manifesto gave a categorical pledge to complete the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre by 2004.

That never happened!

Lester Bird pledged that if the ALP did not complete the Mt. St. John’s Medical Centre, he would not run as a candidate in the 2004 Elections.

He reneged on that pledge and suffered the renowned defeat of ‘The Beast’ from Rural East at the hands of Errol Cort.
